This school year, I have been spending my Thursday afternoons at Nativity Academy facilitating a drama class for 5th-8th graders.
At the start of the year, I received some resistance from the class and it took awhile to gain their trust and faith.
Many complained they had no interest in acting.
I asked,"How about money and success."?
After explaining that acting skills weren't only for movie stars, I had more of their attention.
I went on to explain that, collaboration, presence and poise, as well as empathy are the building blocks for success in any area of life.
Our mastery of these skills shows up in every area of our life; from our social circle to the type of job we attain. You don't have to possess a desire to be on stage or screen to learn the importance of clear speech, self-confidence, and teamwork.
It has been an honor to watch these young woman practice these skills, I look forward to sharing their progress at the end of the semester. -LG
